Hmm, after having problems with Postini, our antispam/antivirus webbased gateway, I've been looking for a company that offers a hosted web based monitoring tool that checks our email system from end to end.
Haven't found one yet, but I'm still looking, of course.
If anyone knows of a good solution that fits and is economical to boot, let me know.
**Update**
Actually, I did manage to find one service from a company called SiteRecon.
Cost is about $36 a month or $340 a year if you buy in an annual chunk.
I got the approval to purchase the service, so will give it a go and let you know how it works.
**Update V2**
OK, well the SiteRecon service is set up and working. Was fairly easy to set up. Just had to create an email account for it on Postini and on my Exchange server. Set up a rule to autoforward emails from the test server and account ([email protected]) back to the same email address. Also had to set up Postini to allow that address through without tagging it as spam.
Then it was a matter of setting up the SiteRecon Email Monitoring Service to send emails to the siterecon email address on my system and also what email addresses to notify in event of failure, which in my case is my cell phone.
Been having a few glitches with SiteRecon getting 500 errors from Postini, but I'm working that issue and it seems to have mostly gone away.
So now I have an end to end test of my email system from out on the web. Tres cool!
